Full parameter scan of the Zee model: exploring Higgs lepton flavor violation
Published: April 21, 2017We study the general Zee model, which includes an extra Higgs scalar doublet and a new singly-charged scalar singlet. Neutrino masses are generated at one-loop level, and in order to describe leptonic mixing, both the Standard Model and the extra Higgs scalar doublets need to couple to leptons (in a type-III two-Higgs doublet model), which necessarily generates large lepton flavor violating signals, also in Higgs decays. Imposing all relevant phenomenological constraints and performing a full numerical scan of the parameter space, we find that both normal and inverted neutrino mass orderings can be fitted, although the latter is disfavored with respect to the former. In fact, inverted ordering can only be accommodated if θ₂₃ turns out to be in the first octant. A branching ratio for h → τμ of up to 10⁻² is allowed, but it could be as low as 10⁻⁶. In addition, if future expected sensitivities of τ → μγ are achieved, normal ordering can be almost completely tested. Also, μe conversion is expected to probe large parts of the parameter space, excluding completely inverted ordering if no signal is observed. Furthermore, non-standard neutrino interactions are found to be smaller than 10⁻⁶, which is well below future experimental sensitivity. Finally, the results of our scan indicate that the masses of the additional scalars have to be below 2.5 TeV, and typically they are lower than that and therefore within the reach of the LHC and future colliders.Juan Herrero-García, Tommy Ohlsson, Stella Riad and Jens Wiré
One-loop renormalization of general noncommutative Yang-Mills field model coupled to scalar and spinor fields
We study the theory of noncommutative U(N) Yang-Mills field interacting with
scalar and spinor fields in the fundamental and the adjoint representations. We
include in the action both the terms describing interaction between the gauge
and the matter fields and the terms which describe interaction among the matter
fields only. Some of these interaction terms have not been considered
previously in the context of noncommutative field theory. We find all
counterterms for the theory to be finite in the one-loop approximation. It is
shown that these counterterms allow to absorb all the divergencies by
renormalization of the fields and the coupling constants, so the theory turns
out to be multiplicatively renormalizable. In case of 1PI gauge field functions
the result may easily be generalized on an arbitrary number of the matter
fields. To generalize the results for the other 1PI functions it is necessary
for the matter coupling constants to be adapted in the proper way. In some
simple cases this generalization for a part of these 1PI functions is
considered.Comment: 1+26 pages, figures using axodraw, clarifications adde
The sequence recall task and lexicality of tone: Exploring tone “deafness”
Many perception and processing effects of the lexical status of tone have been found in behavioral, psycholinguistic, and neuroscientific research, often pitting varieties of tonal Chinese against non-tonal Germanic languages. While the linguistic and cognitive evidence for lexical tone is therefore beyond dispute, the word prosodic systems of many languages continue to escape the categorizations of typologists. One controversy concerns the existence of a typological class of “pitch accent languages,” another the underlying phonological nature of surface tone contrasts, which in some cases have been claimed to be metrical rather than tonal. We address the question whether the Sequence Recall Task (SRT), which has been shown to discriminate between languages with and without word stress, can distinguish languages with and without lexical tone. Using participants from non-tonal Indonesian, semi-tonal Swedish, and two varieties of tonal Mandarin, we ran SRTs with monosyllabic tonal contrasts to test the hypothesis that high performance in a tonal SRT indicates the lexical status of tone. An additional question concerned the extent to which accuracy scores depended on phonological and phonetic properties of a language’s tone system, like its complexity, the existence of an experimental contrast in a language’s phonology, and the phonetic salience of a contrast. The results suggest that a tonal SRT is not likely to discriminate between tonal and non-tonal languages within a typologically varied group, because of the effects of specific properties of their tone systems. Future research should therefore address the first hypothesis with participants from otherwise similar tonal and non-tonal varieties of the same language, where results from a tonal SRT may make a useful contribution to the typological debate on word prosody
The form factors existing in the b->s g^* decay and the possible CP violating effects in the noncommutative standard model
We study the form factors appearing in the inclusive decay b -> s g^*, in the
framework of the noncommutative standard model. Here g^* denotes the virtual
gluon. We get additional structures and the corresponding form factors in the
noncommutative geometry. We analyse the dependencies of the form factors to the
parameter p\Theta k where p (k) are the four momenta of incoming (outgoing) b
quark (virtual gluon g^*, \Theta is a parameter which measures the
noncommutativity of the geometry. We see that the form factors are weaklyComment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Physician-Controlled Wire-Guided Cannulation of the Minor Papilla
Background. Minor papilla (MiP) cannulation is frequently performed using specialized small-caliber accessories. Outcomes data for MiP cannulation with standard-sized accessories are lacking.
Methods. This is a case series describing MiP cannulation outcomes in consecutive patients treated by two endoscopists between July 2005 and November 2008 at two tertiary referral centers. MiP cannulation was attempted using a 4.4 Fr tip sphincterotome loaded with a 0.035″, 260 cm hydrophilic-tip guidewire, using a wire-guided technique under physician control.
Results. 25 patients were identified (14 women, mean age 45). Procedure indications included recurrent acute pancreatitis in 16 patients (64%) and chronic pancreatitis in 2 (8%), among other indications. MiP cannulation was successful in 24 patients (96%). Sphincterotomy followed by pancreatic stent placement was performed in 21 patients (84%). Mild post-ERCP pancreatitis occurred in 3 patients (12%).
Conclusion. Physician-controlled wire-guided MiP cannulation using a 4.4 Fr sphincterotome and 0.035″ guidewire is an effective and safe technique
Non-renormalizability of noncommutative SU(2) gauge theory
We analyze the divergent part of the one-loop effective action for the
noncommutative SU(2) gauge theory coupled to the fermions in the fundamental
representation. We show that the divergencies in the 2-point and the 3-point
functions in the -linear order can be renormalized, while the
divergence in the 4-point fermionic function cannot.Comment: 15 pages, results presented at ESI 2d dilaton gravity worksho
Review of the Phenomenology of Noncommutative Geometry
We present a pedagogical review of particle physics models that are based on
the noncommutativity of space-time, , with specific attention to the phenomenology these models predict in
particle experiments either in existence or under development. We summarize
results obtained for high energy scattering such as would occur for example in
a future linear collider with , as well as low
energy experiments such as those pertaining to elementary electric dipole
moments and other \cpviolng observables, and finally comment on the status of
phenomenological work in cosmology and extra dimensions.Comment: updated, references added, corrected typo

The one-loop renormalization of the gauge sector in the noncommutative standard model
In this paper we construct a version of the standard model gauge sector on
noncommutative space-time which is one-loop renormalizable to first order in
the expansion in the noncommutativity parameter . The one-loop
renormalizability is obtained by the Seiberg-Witten redefinition of the
noncommutative gauge potential for the model containing the usual six
representations of matter fields of the first generation.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figure
